DESCRIPTION:Carlisle Christmas Freestall – Saturday 3rd December – 9.00 : 14.00 – The Fratry\, Carlisle Cathedral. \nJoin the “buy less\, give more” movement by getting involved with the Freestall at this year’s Carlisle Christmas Farmers’ Market. ☃️ \n\n \n\n\nThere are four different ways of engaging with reducing landfill waste (which in turn releases dangerous toxins into the atmosphere and damages local eco-systems) as well being part of a positive change in our community.\n\n\n \n\n\n1. Volunteer on the stall! 🤝\n\n\nWe would love to welcome anybody who is interested in chatting with the public about sustainability to join our welcoming team of volunteers. Any time that you can give is warmly appreciated\, no experience required and I can answer any queries beforehand.\n\n\n \n\n\n2. Donate a pre-loved item. 🧹\n\n\nFor the Christmas Freestall we like to go all out with our donations\, so if you’ve got anything still untouched from last Christmas that’s gathering dust\, free up some space and give it the chance to find a new home. \n\n\n \n\n\n3. Swing by the stall! 😍\n\n\nEveryone is welcome to swing by the stall throughout the day\, chat to one of our volunteers or even grab an unexpected treat for yourself or loved ones. There’s always something interesting or practical to find. There’ll be plenty of amazing local food and drink on offer from other stall holders as well.\n\n\n \n\n\n4. Share this post. 🎺\n\n\nHelping spread the word of the market and our stall is a really helpful way of ensuring those who can benefit from our stall can see it! Thank you.\n\n\n \n\n\nThis Farmers’ Market is set to be a really good one\, we are planning on having a particularly snazzy freestall\, there will be lots of Christmas cheer to go around and it will be indoors so we can have a nice and toasty time on the stall.

DESCRIPTION:“Fix Your Stuff\, Save the World\, Save Lots of Money” \n\nCarlisle Repair Cafe was created to help people repair things instead of throwing them away\, to reduce unnecessary production of things\, reduce the volume of rubbish that goes to landfill and to save people money.\n\n\nImagine a hoover purchased only two years ago that has stopped working already\, it’s just out of warranty so the manufacturer won’t help.\n\n\n\nThe cause of a lot of item malfunctions is repairable at home and there are specialists that can help with those that are not.\nCarlisle Repair Cafe is open from 10am until 1pm at Botcherby Community Centre on the last Saturday of the month.\n\nThe repair cafe is run by a group of local volunteers who will help people from the community fix their broken possessions; saving the world and lots of money.\n\n\n\nEveryone is invited to bring their broken possessions\, no matter what they are or how old they are. SUMMARY:Peat education and conservation visit
DESCRIPTION:The Past and Future of Wedholme Flow National Nature Reserve\, 780 hectares of peatbog on the Solway so pull on your wellies!\n\n\nThis is a peatland close to Carlisle that was commercially extracted for peat compost for the horticultural industry until 2002. You’ll hear about how bogs are formed\, what lives there\, and we’ll take a peat core to tell us more. We’ll think about man’s use of peat throughout history and the role of peat in the long-term storage of carbon from the atmosphere. DESCRIPTION:Freestall this Saturday!\nOur regular Freestall is on this Saturday. Come along to peruse our free goods\, donate something (plants\, seeds and books are always hugely popular on the stall) and chat to one of our fantastic volunteers. \nThe stall aims to reduce waste going to landfill by creating new life for pre-loved items\, but is also a great way to chat and engage with the people of Carlisle about sustianability. \nWe will be there 9am – 2pm on the Cathedral grounds this Saturday 2nd April. \nIf you’d like to volunteer\, no experience of any field required – just an interest in the environment and conversation\, please contact katie@sustainablecarlisle.org.

SUMMARY:Environmental Day at Finglandrigg Woods
DESCRIPTION:ENVIRONMENTAL DAY IN THE WOODS\nSaturday 26th March 10-3\n\nWe are excited to announce this collaborative event with Natural England. Help the rare marsh fritillary butterfly through re-planting and create nature inspired ephemeral art at Finglandrigg Woods. \nThe day will see us transplanting some Devils bit scabious plants from one section of the reserve to another. This flower is the food plant for the Marsh Fritillary butterfly that was re-introduced back in 2007 onto the reserve following it’s very near extinction in the county. \nWe will also be able to take inspiration from iconic land artist Andy Goldsworthy as well inspiration from our surroundings and create ephemeral nature art. This is a zero-damage to local eco-systems way of creating visually dazzling nature based art. This will be facilitated by a local professional artist. \nThis day will be suitable for all the family. Sturdy shoes\, a packed lunch and flask are recommended.  \n \nClick above for directions to Finglandrigg Wood – it should be around a 20 minutes drive from Carlisle.
