Example Objection to Rockcliffe Gasification Incinerator

Our thanks to Rockcliffe and District Action Group for this example objection to the proposed gasification incinerator at Rockcliffe. If you are short of time, or don’t know what to write, you can just use it as it is. Those who want something more detailed could use this longer objection instead.

Don’t worry if the consultation end date has passed. Your objection should still be counted as long as it is received before the planning application has been decided.

Send your objection by email or post. Don’t forget to include your name and address. Sign and date if submitting by post.

Please also object to the permit application for this incinerator.

OBJECTIONS to Planning Application 1/23/9005

I OBJECT to the proposed gasification incinerator.

I OBJECT to the unnecessary air pollution damaging our health and our children’s health.

I OBJECT to the lack of pollution reduction measures that the company said would be included.

I OBJECT to the risk of dioxins that would remain in soils and harm health for decades.

I OBJECT to the pollution that would harm wildlife and habitats.

I OBJECT to the risk of more wagons on unsuitable roads.

I OBJECT to an attempt to justify this polluting experiment by saying unrelated diesel generators would be switched off. Those generators should be switched off anyway using electricity cables that are already in place to connect to the electricity grid.

I OBJECT to Carlisle becoming a waste city and another harmful waste development being imposed on us against our will.

I OBJECT to the inadequate assessment of fire and explosion risks.

I OBJECT to the ugly 75 foot chimney harming the views in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

I OBJECT to the secrecy about a pelleting plant that is really part of the proposal but still not defined.

I OBJECT to a Council that considers it has already permitted a new potentially noisy and smelly pelleting plant but gave residents no opportunity to object.

I OBJECT when the Council already approved a massive gasification incinerator in Carlisle which it then allowed it to be changed to a regular incinerator that the company originally said was more polluting. That polluting monstrosity may still be built so there could be two.

I OBJECT to this Cumberland planning application being handled by a distant Westmorland and Furness Planning team – the planning team responsible for the multiple errors and failings in the planning process for the first Carlisle incinerator, as found by an independent review.

Please acknowledge receipt of this objection.
