Conversation Cafe

Every Third Saturday of the Month, Sustainable Carlisle has a Conversation Cafe at a local food and drink establishment (which transported onto zoom during lockdown!). It is not minuted but there is a set theme / agenda, to gather our thoughts and focus our attention.

We have covered many issues such as, The Carlisle Flooding, Plastics in the environment, Charles Eisenstein, how to remain optimistic in the face of climate emergency…. and many others.

Its always informative, often entertaining, and remind us that the most important element of Sustainability is developing a Cooperative Community.

Spins offs include Conversation Pub and even Conversation Steam.

All members, new and familiar, are very welcome to come along…keep an eye on our emailing list / social media for month to month updates!

One of our invites for a previous online event.

For one of our recent Conversation Cafes we collaborated with Cycle Carlisle on a Slow cycle and Conversation Cafe day of events!

Here are some pictures from this day, where we first enjoyed a slow cycle demonstration that drew attention to local cycling infrastructure faults and then had lots of interesting discussion about COP 26 at our Conversation Cafe.

No snaps from the conversation cafe as everyone was busy getting down to business chatting and drinking coffee!

At the Conversation Cafe, there was both hope and despair expressed but mainly hope and an understanding that we, as the public, have to keep ratcheting up the pressure on decision makers to improve year on year. We also talked about the role of the media, the power of legislation, the need to support and protect indigenous populations as those who know how to protect the planet, delaying tactics, ways of resisting and more.

With thanks to John from Cycle Carlisle for some of these pictures.
