Sustainable Carlisle – Conversation Cafe POSTPONED

POSTPONED

We have taken the hard decision to postpone this event due to revised covid-19 regulations and Christmas holidays capacity. We will be back in the new year with an exciting refreshed feel to our Conversation Cafe and to continue collaborating with Cycle Carlisle.

Every Third Saturday of the Month, Sustainable Carlisle has a Conversation Cafe at a local food and drink establishment (which transported onto zoom during lockdown!). It is not minuted but there is a set theme / agenda, to gather our thoughts and focus our attention.

We have covered many issues such as, The Carlisle Flooding, Plastics in the environment, Charles Eisenstein, how to remain optimistic in the face of climate emergency…. and many others.

Its always informative, often entertaining, and remind us that the most important element of Sustainability is developing a Cooperative Community.

Spins offs include Conversation Pub and even Conversation Steam.

All members, new and familiar, are very welcome to come along…keep an eye on our emailing list / social media for month to month updates!

Recap of the last Convo Cafe and Slow Cycle
Thank you to everyone who came along to our collaborative event with Cycle Carlisle, where before our regular Conversation Cafe (this time hosted at Tribe in Bitts Park) we embarked on a slow cycle organised by Cycle Carlisle to demonstrate the Burgh Road cycleway closure. There was great turn out of people, who travelled through the area near to the closed cycleway with signs attached to backs and bikes.

There was lots of interesting discussion about COP 26 at the Conversation Cafe and was great to see some new faces there too. There was both a feeling of hope and despair expressed but mainly hope and an understanding that we, as the public, have to keep ratcheting up the pressure on decision makers to improve year on year. We also talked about the role of the media, the power of legislation, the need to support and protect indigenous populations as those who know how to protect the planet, delaying tactics, ways of resisting and more.

Watch this space for more slow cycles and Conversation Cafe events coming soon.
